"I will resign if Police and NSS fail to bring order in 72 hours" threatens Dictator Gayyoom
Male' - A very reliable source has informed that Gayyoom had given an ultimatum to his most senior Police and National Security Service officers in an emergency meeting held last night after his arrival from Singapore. The ultimatum is that Gayyoom will resign if they Police and the Army cannot bring the situation under control and order to public life, which is absolutely in mayhem now after the incidents of yesterday. What Gayyoom does not realise is that this is the one thing that the country has been crying out for and the vast majority of Maldivians will be overjoyed to see the back of him.
However, Gayyoom is playing this to his advantage. His senior officers will have to face charges of corruption and torture and part way with their lavish and powerful lifestyle if Gayyoom is ousted, so they are likely to take any action to bring the country under control. The allegations of finding weapons (steel rods used in concrete and empty water bottles filled with petrol) and the demolition of MDP Haruge tent is just one of the many tactics they are using to convince the public that the peaceful demonstration which turned to horror yesterday was illegal. For them, any form of assembly except those to praise the mightly leader Dictator Gayyoom is classed as illegal in spite of the fact that assembling in a place is a constitutional right of every Maldivian. What is really pathetic is that these officers are there to protect their interests which is to keep Dictator Gayyoom in power who allows them to get away with murder and abuse of power.
