Gayyoom the terrorist is using our money to kill us
By A. S. I. Moosa (Sappe'), 1 January 2006
Over the last couple of years, thousands of Maldivians have seen and read with hard evidence clear details of the crimes that this tyrant Gayyoom had committed and continues to commit against our people.
Evan Naseem's brutal death in September 2003 woke many of us and made us work harder than ever to bring an end to this tyranny.
Many of us have wondered for years how Gayyoom had managed to remain in power despite popular dissent and disquiet throughout his time in power. He runs a police state but we did not know how he managed to breed a bunch of loyalist who would do anything to protect his terrorist regime in Maldives.
One of the most startling evidence of how he remains in power was published in Adduvas Weekly last week. Gayyoom has been giving soft loans to anyone who supports his murderous regime. Amongst them are the Commissioner of Police and Chief Torturer Adam Zahir who has been given a loan of 8 Million Rufiyaa from state funds. In return he ensures that Gayyoom's regime remains in power no matter what. In addition to this, the Dictator has given loans to several other key government officials, including cabinet ministers and members of the parliament. Interestingly, people like Adam Zahir don't even pay it back, they simply ignore it and get another loan if they so wish.
Also, it is very interesting that most of the cabinet ministers and parliamentarians who have rejected any idea of real democracy emerging in Maldives, turning a blind eye to Gayyoom's crimes, have all had been given loans as well. So, the dictator can completely disregard the Constitution of the Maldives whenever he wants. We all know that he has undermined several clauses of the constitution, especially the principle rights of the Maldivians such as freedom of expression, assembly and association but no one dared, rather no one bothered to raise a voice against him because they've all been bought by the Dictator.
The Dictator has had a very easy ride for over 25 years but that is because the people who are supposed to protect our rights sold their principles and betrayed our nation. According to most analysts, there is absolutely no way Gayyoom can remain in power beyond a few more months. His crimes have been exposed to the general public and he no longer has the power to stop information from flowing to the general public.
As we start this New Year, the Good Maldivians must firmly resolve to bring an end to this murderous regime as soon as possible. Every Good Maldivian must unite to defend our constitution because that is the only way we can guarantee a good future for our generation and those to come.
We must remove this Terrorist from power before the end of 2006. That should be our resolution for this year.
